According to a report on the Tennessean.com website, the Tennessee Titans are suing USC and head coach Lane Kiffin for “maliciously” interfering with the contract of running backs coach Kennedy Pola.

Pola announced on Saturday that he was leaving the Titans and his position as running backs coach to return to his alma mater as the offensive coordinator/running backs coach for the Trojans.

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, also a Trojan alum, had publicly called Kiffin out after the hire for not approaching him ahead of time, an act that he said showed "a lack of professionalism". Today, the Titans took the perceived slight a step further by filing the lawsuit which alleges that “as a result of USC and Kiffin’s tortuous conduct, Tennessee (Titans) football has been damaged in an amount proven at trial.’’

According to the lawsuit, “USC and Kiffin maliciously intended to – and did – induce Pola to breach his contract with the Titans. The lawsuit alleges “USC and Kiffin engaged in improper means in their procedure of the breach and were not legally justified in their actions.’’

Pola left the Titans just before the start of NFL training camps after agreeing to come to the team last January.  He had previously served as the RB coach at USC in addition to stints in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
