After taking his official visit to USC last weekend, James Boyd from L.A. Jordan High said his verbal commitment to USC was strong, but he still wanted to visit Washington and planned doing so this weekend, until today.

Boyd, the top defensive end from the L.A. City Section, informed us earlier today that he was ending the recruiting process and no longer had plans to visit Washington.

“I wasn’t really feeling Washington, I really didn’t want to go up there and I just decided to commit to USC,” said Boyd about his decision to cancel his official visit to Washington. “I have ended the recruiting process and I am 100% committed to USC.”

As of yesterday, Washington had a huge recruiting weekend planned with Boyd, Jordan WR/Safety Delvon Purvis, St. Bonaventure safety and USC commit Patrick Hall and UCLA commit Brandon Sermons from Diamond Ranch scheduled to visit. What a difference a day makes.

“Nobody is going to Washington, now,” said Boyd.

There has been talk about Boyd and Purvis wanting to play together in college, but Boyd acknowledged that isn’t likely to happen.

“Notre Dame has picked things up with Delvon and they’re going to get back to him,” Boyd said. “They want to see his SAT scores. So, he’s going to go to Notre Dame or walk on at Fresno State. He's got an academic scholarship.”

There was also some speculation Boyd was wavering on his commitment to USC because Devon Kennard and Kevin Greene recently verbally committed to the Trojans.

“Everybody thought I was going to change my mind because Devon Kennard committed and Kevin Greene committed, but that really didn’t matter to me,” said Boyd. “That motivated me even more to go to USC because that’s more competition at my position. I’ll be playing with some of the best players in this class and they’re going to give you a fight at practice every day. I’m happy Devon committed to USC because he’s a cool dude and I know I have to work harder and get stronger, faster and smarter.”

We’ll be at Jordan High on Feb. 4 and have much more on James’ decision to stick with the Trojans.
