Terrance Lang commits to USC

The Trojans got an early holiday present on Thursday when defensive lineman Terrance Lang announced that he would attend USC.

Lang (6-6, 275) is considered a very good athlete for his size and a potential versatile interior lineman. He plays at Maranatha HS, a smaller school where the competition level did not include many players with his build. He chose the Trojans over offers from UCLA, ASU, Wisconsin, Texas A&M and others.

Oh, great! Another “Athlete /project” who may never make an impact. He will be lucky to see the field. Can you say Kevin Scott? No knock on the kid, but his video from Maranatha High School doesn’t impress at all. Did not dominate the opposing teams, even though he was of Superior size, athletism, and Strength. We are just not landing those impact players defensively, in the volume that made our defenses so good during the Pete Carroll years. Even if we are fortunate to land one dominate d-lineman, most of the impact guys have committed elsewhere.

There are six players USC Staff should concentrate on signing…
1 – Marvin Wilson Rated #1 rated DT on Scout.com – Potentially the best player in this entire years crop of recruits
    2 – Phidarian Mathis #3 rated DT on Scout.com – Solid DT
3 – Jay Tufele #10 rated DT on Scout.com – A beast from Utah who could be the next Stevie!!!
4 – Darnay Holmes #5 rated CB on Scout.com – I have seen him play in person…think Adoree Jackson!!!
5 – James Robinson IV #7 Wide receiver on Scout.com – Keyshawn Johnson Type game changer
6 – Bubba Bolden #11 Safety on Scout.com – We had him, lost him, but need to re-establish recruiting him. Solid Safety!!!!

I would also add Foster Sarell to that list. A “Tony Boselli” type OT who could protect Darnold then Sears for the next four years!!!

I will say it again – unless this team gets 7 DL and 5 of those are interior – this class will be a bust – Trojans have enough skill guys for the next couple yrs and don’t have nearly enough inside run stuffers –

We also need one more top notch big receiver – James Robinson IV would be a great fit!

I definitely agree. All the speed and fancy players don’t mean jack unless you have a solid interior on both sides of the ball. We can win a ton of pac 12 games with usc current recruiting class but to compete with the likes of Alabama, lsu, Ohio state, Clemson, FL St etc we must have quality dt and de depth

Get these three and we have our defensive line set for the next 3-4 years!!!

      2 – Phidarian Mathis #3 rated DT on Scout.com – Solid DT

Yes good list – what happens if we don’t get any of those guys / must supplement any misses with more than a few 3 & 4 star guys that can be coached up – the interior of this D line is so SOFT – any number of teams completely exposed it all yr long – grab 2 JC guys and 5 guys from around the country ro locally and if one of those studs comes on board then all the better –

There is a strong possibity we get none of these guys. It will set the program back tremendously if this should occur. Helton and Co. loaded up on marginal talent, while the Elite teams were locking up difference makers. This may ended up being the worst class in 17 or more years. This would be a great class for Arizona or Colorado, but not for SC.

Finally, people are starting to notice the poor recruiting. Alabama and Clemson have top 5 classes EVERY YEAR.
